Welcome to Medolino Caravan Park

Set in lush surroundings, we offer you a tranquil sheltered ‘bird park’ setting

near Kowie River, Port Alfred, Eastern Cape

Medolino is a hop, skip and jump away from the magnificent Kowie river which flows into the warm Indian ocean. We are very central situated and almost everything is a few minutes’ walk or drive from the park. Water sports enthusiasts can indulge in swimming, surfing, boating, water-skiing and scuba diving. The town has a picturesque small boat harbor, residential marina and first class angling. The charming little village of Bathurst is just a 10min drive away and there you can be transported back to the feel of an English village off the 19th Century. There are more than a million hectares of game reserves, hiking trails and historical and scenic places to visit.

Medolino is situated in Port Alfred, the heart of the Sunshine coast, also known for its beautiful beaches, bird life, friendly people and the magnificent Kowie river. The park was bought by new owners in June 2021.The owners are hands on and passionate campers themselves, thus trying to secure every visitor the holiday that dreams are made off.

Medolino Caravan Park is really a tranquil and peaceful park where one can sit under the trees next to the small lake for hours to relax and enjoy the country atmosphere and bird life. There are 36 large grassed camping sites with power points and most of them shaded under beautiful big trees. There are 3 ablution blocks which are always clean and well maintained.

Our campsites vary in size to accommodate from a two man tent (10×12) to a double axle caravan or a RV (14×12) and can accommodate up to 6 people on one site. Because the owners stay on the property they provide a hands on approach and checking in can take place any time during office hours.

All our stands are fully grassed and shady, immaculately maintained with high quality comfort stations. Being centrally situated, visitors to Medolino have a long list of things to do outside of the park. The beautiful Kowie River offers a variety of water sports ranging from swimming, fishing, sailing and boating as well as canoeing, paddle-skiing, pedal boats and water-skiing. All swimming beaches are easily accessible. Trails, hikes and scenic walks on the beaches and in the nature reserves.

Being situated behind a dune our visitors can experience the sound of the waves without the sand and sticky wind. The ocean is only an 800m walk from the park. Our park has 36 grass stands under beautiful old Coral trees that provides shade all day. Each campsite has electricity ,dustbin and water with a braai that is moveable. Although water is an issue in the  Eastern Cape, here at Medolino we are totally independent with water tanks that provide the park with water in the ablutions. We welcome all kinds of pets, provided that they are socialized and well behaved.

Checking out during peak season is at 10 in the morning and during off season no later than 12 in the afternoon. In the middle of our park is a beautiful dam that is home to more than 133 bird species, an absolute heaven for birdwatchers. The Hibiscus also grow in the park and we have 6 different colours in our garden among our beautiful Coral trees. Our beautiful and safe gardens are open to the public to enjoy the tranquil birdlife and dam.

We have five staff members. Elize is our office manager and always available to assist in any way she can. John Field has joined our team as park grounds manager. Gloria is in household and we can ensure our guests of beautiful and clean bathrooms. Sipho and Tyson are in charge of maintenance and gardening. They make sure that the dustbins and braais are cleaned daily and will also assist in setting up tents if needed. Johan is our permanent inhouse security officer and we do our utmost to ensure that your stay at Medolino is safe and trouble free.

  • Excellent well manicured caravan park. A little gem in Port Alfred and the only one I stay at. Fantastic setting with tons of birds and beautiful trees and plants. Importantly, there are new owners that are friendly and approachable.

  • We camped here for our 30 years anniversary. We were pleasantly surprised with the beautiful park. Green gras and campsites were demarcated with lash green hedges. The owners and staff are so friendly and helpful. I haven't seen such clean ablution facilities for a long time. (Look out for Precious. The lady that keeps the ablusion blocks spotless)There are ample bird species to identify and add to your list. I recommend this beautiful park to all campers passing by.

  • What an experience! Most beautiful and well maintained camp we have ever been to in 12 years of camping. Clean showers and toilets, beautiful grassy stands and the view over the dam is amazing. Will recommend 5⭐️ for service and cleanliness. Susan is a wonderful hostess and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay (20 people group).
